Alan Shearer delivers Mohamed Salah warning before Man City vs Liverpool title showdown

Alan Shearer has warned Manchester City that Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah will rise to the grand occasion that awaits at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon (4.30pm). The 29-year-old has been a real stand-out this campaign and sits top of the Premier League charts with 20 goals.

By his own sky-high standards, though, Salah has suffered a slight dip in his form with only one goal in his last four games. However, as City know all-too well, the Egyptian forward can conjure up magic in the blink of an eye.

Salah netted a stunning solo effort when the title rivals met at Anfield earlier in the season. That meeting also saw the 82-cap international provide an assist for Sadio Mane, but it was his jinking run and finish 15 minutes from time which lit up a mouth-watering showdown.

The same stage awaits for Salah and star names from both sides this afternoon. With just one point between them at the Premier League summit, City can move four clear by beating Liverpool, who can also leapfrog the champions with a similar result of their own.

Shearer told Premier League Productions: "You want the big players to perform in the biggest of games and that was exactly that [Salah goal at Anfield]. For someone to show that brilliance and that skill. I mean the ability is just incredible, the way he goes left and right and pulled it off the way he did.

"Do not be surprised if he was to do something similar and find the back of the net this Sunday, because the best players turn up in the biggest and best games. I know he hasn't scored as many of late, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was on the scoresheet on Sunday."
