Alan Shearer blasts two Manchester United players for performances vs Burnley

Alan Shearer has slammed two Manchester United players for the 'embarrassing' contribution they made to Burnley hitting back for a point at Turf Moor last night.

United were impressive during the early stages of their latest Premier League game and Paul Pogba put them ahead with a sharp finish on 18 minutes.

Either side of that right-footed strike from the World Cup winner, Ralf Rangnick and his team had two goals chalked off for differing offences - one involving Harry Maguire.

He was adjudged to have blocked Jay Rodriguez from an offside position at a set-piece.

That prevented Raphael Varane from registering his first United goal, while Pogba was the guilty man when another would-be strike was ruled out after Josh Brownhill turned into his own net.

United were punished for those decisions when Rodriguez earned Burnley a share of the spoils.

According to Shearer, though, there was plenty that could have been done in-house to prevent the Clarets hitting back to earn a precious point in their ongoing battle for Premier League survival, namely through £80million captain Maguire and Scotland international McTominay.

It was a result which put a dent in United's quest for Champions League qualification.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, the former Newcastle striker said: "I mean Maguire and McTominay.

"The lack of effort and the lack of a tackle from Maguire and McTominay was embarrassing in the midfield.

"It was far too easy and that's how Burnley scored."
