Alan Shearer and Ian Wright disagree on Man City's controversial ruled out goal vs Liverpool FC

Arsenal legend Ian Wright is adamant Manchester City's Ruben Dias goal was rightly ruled out against Liverpool despite Alan Shearer believing Alisson was overprotected.

The top two in the Premier League at the start of the weekend played out a cagey 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium. A mistake from Liverpool's 'keeper gifted City the lead as Erling Haaland bagged yet again for the hosts.

City thought they had doubled their advantage in the second half when Dias tapped home from a corner. However, the referee and VAR chose to rule out the goal after Manu Akanji was adjudged to have fouled Alisson in the build-up when he challenged for the ball in the air.

This decision would ultimately cost City as Trent Alexander-Arnold fired in an equaliser with ten minutes remaining to share the spoils in Manchester. On Match of the Day, Wright and Shearer were asked for their thoughts on the incident and the two ex-strikers could not come to an agreement.

Here is everything said during their debate.

IW: How many hands did he have on him? Did he have one hand on him or two?

AS: I think they got away with one there, you know.

IW: To be honest, you cannot touch 'keepers like that.

AS: I thought that was a bit harsh.

IW: This one, do you think that is harsh?

AS: Yeah it is a little bit harsh, I know it is a goalkeeper so you can't go anywhere near them...

IW: He has got a hand on the goalkeeper's arm, he is never going to get away with that.
