Alan Browne's stance on Callum Robinson's potential return to Preston North End

Preston North End captain Alan Browne is pleased with the club's transfer business so far this summer, but feels Callum Robinson would be a statement signing.

The Lilywhites have been linked with a move for their former forward, who is down the pecking order at Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion. There has been some back and forth between the clubs and managers, with North End pursuing a move and looking to strengthen their forward line.

A return for Robinson is craved by the Deepdale faithful. For Browne, that sentiment is certainly shared, having come through at PNE as a young lad and then shared the international stage with him.

On the possibility of a return to PNE for Robinson, Browne told : "I was surprised when he was getting linked with us, to be honest, because I thought he would play at West Brom. He played a good part of last season and every time I've seen him play, he has been top class. So yeah, we'd be lucky to have him, but whatever happens I wish him the best of luck because he's one of my close mates."

Browne added: "I would love to see him back to be honest, but I am not sure what the case is. You never know what will happen; I've obviously seen all the stuff on Twitter but I don't know if it means too much."

Lowe has proven to be savvy in the transfer market so far, with the addition of Cameron Archer on loan last season and Robbie Brady, Freddie Woodman and Ben Woodburn looking astute recruits this summer. Browne has been impressed by the deals done under Lowe and feels it gives the rest of the squad a boost - though he does want to see a few more signings made yet
