Akhmetov contributes UAH 10 mln to support Heraskevych and his team, following mono, Kyivstar TV, 1+1, OBRIO and WhiteBIT

Businessman Rinat Akhmetov will transfer UAH 10 million to Olympic athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych and his coaching staff — an amount equivalent to the Olympic gold prize money he and his team would have received for a victory, according to a press release from the Akhmetov Foundation published on its website on Tuesday.

"I want him to have sufficient energy and resources to continue his sporting career, as well as to fight for truth, freedom and the preservation of the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine," Akhmetov was quoted as saying in the statement.

According to the release, the agreement was reached during a meeting between representatives of the Akhmetov Foundation and the Ukrainian Olympic athlete. The funds will be transferred to the account of the Heraskevych Charitable Foundation.

The businessman noted that the funds represent support for the Ukrainian skeleton athlete in his fight for the right to remembrance and the protection of Ukraine’s interests on the international stage, and at the same time constitute support not only for one athlete but for the entire team working toward results and representing Ukraine on the world stage.

As reported, a number of other Ukrainian businesses had previously announced financial support for Heraskevych following his disqualification at the Olympic Games for refusing to replace his helmet, which bore images of Ukrainian athletes killed as a result of Russian aggression.

"I would very much like other businesses to also join in and award Vladyslav a financial bonus as well. It would be the right thing to do. Athletes dedicate their lives to achieving results. Vladyslav sacrificed his goal for the sake of justice and truth," monobank co-founder Oleh Horokhovsky
