Ajax forward slammed for 'jeopardising Liverpool move with idiotic behaviour'

Exciting Ajax forward Antony can forget about a move to Liverpool or any other major Premier League club if he doesn't stop 'behaving like an idiot'.

That's the view of not one but two former Netherlands internationals after the 22-year-old's last minute winner against Feyenoord descended into farce at the weekend.

The Brazilian settled a gripping encounter 3-2 in favour of the Amsterdam side with three minutes remaining, before taking his shirt off and climbing onto the top of advertising hoardings to parade himself to the jubilant Ajax supporters.

Milking the moment for all it was worth, the 22-year-old received a yellow card for over-celebrating but worse was still to come. Having gone in high on an opponent in injury time, Antony appeared to feign an injury to himself on the touchline before receiving a second yellow, followed by a red, for perceived time-wasting.

Despite his dismissal, the forward removed his shirt again at the full time whistle and returned to the home supporters at full time, where his jersey was taken by a supporter.

Former Dutch international Rene van der Gijp was not impressed. He told Vandaag Inside: “Suppose we are in the stands together as a scout for Manchester City or Liverpool and we are looking at Antony, what do you think we would say when we come back on Monday? We will not take that. You don’t see a Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané or Mohamed Salah doing this? Then you can say: he is young, but it can also get crazier.”
