Ajax duo Jurrien Timber and Brian Brobbey shut down mention of Manchester United star Antony

When Ajax summer signing Calvin Bassey mentioned Antony's name during the Eredivisie side’s FIFA 23 ratings reveal he was immediately shut down by two of his teammates.

Manchester United signed the Brazilian winger towards the end of the transfer window, with the United and Ajax eventually agreeing to a €100million (£85.5m) deal for the 22-year-old. Antony was desperate to link-up with his former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, and even skipped Ajax training in a bid to force a move.

Ajax were annoyed about the nature of Antony’s departure, particularly having also lost Lisandro Martinez to United earlier in the summer.

However, it appears that Bassey, who signed for Ajax from Rangers in the summer after an impressive season last term, was not fully aware of the transfer saga that had engulfed Antony’s switch to Old Trafford - even seeming to forget that he had left the club.

The 22-year-old took part in a FIFA 23 video alongside fellow summer signing Steven Bergwijn and Brian Brobbey and Jurien Timber, with the four players having to guess their teammates’ new FIFA cards.

During round one of the game, the Ajax stars were shown a series of FIFA cards through the years which all related to one player, and they had to guess which of their teammates’ careers it was.

One of the players in question had gone from a 62-rated bronze card to a 79-rated gold – with pace and dribbling as the highest two attributes. Without hesitation, Bassey thought that he knew exactly who it was.
