Airdrie star cries 'bring it on' as Diamonds face 'eight cup finals' in League One play-off battle with Alloa and Edinburgh

Striker Gabby McGill says Airdrie face eight cup finals to land a play-off spot in League One and cried: “Bring it on”.

Despite their emphatic victory, Airdrie remain two points off the promotion play-off spots with nearest rivals FC Edinburgh and Alloa joint-third on 45 points and second-place Falkirk 11 points clear.

Three teams are battling it out for the last two play-off spots and ahead of this weekend’s clash with bottom of the table Peterhead, McGill is relishing the challenge of eight massive games to get them to where they want to be by the end of the season.

He said: “The team performance on Saturday was brilliant.

“It was quite even for the first 15 minutes but once we got the goal our quality shone through.

“We were playing free-flowing football, passing it about. The movement was great between me, Callum Smith, Justin Devenny and Adam Frizzell, then Calum Gallagher dropping a bit deeper, just gave us so much space.

“We really exploited that and hopefully we can keep that going.

“That was four games without a win we were on so to bounce back with a 6-1 scoreline is brilliant.

“We’ve got eight big games left, but we go into them full of confidence to try and get into those play-off spots.

“You don’t want it to be going into those last couple of games, so if we can get a good run going and cement our place in the play-offs as quickly as possible, that would be brilliant.

“We’ve got eight cup finals to do that now, so bring it on.”
