Airdrie 'not hitting panic button' insists Frizzell, as Morton clash looms

Airdrie captain Adam Frizzell says they have nothing to lose in their bid for Championship safety – but they’re not hitting the panic button just yet.

The Diamonds have won their last two games in the league, against Queen’s Park and Dunfermline, as they had into a tricky double-header at Morton and Partick Thistle, before hosting Raith Rovers in a rearranged fixture on February 25.

Airdrie are rock-bottom of the table, nine points behind Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton Accies, going into an important sequence.

“They’re all big games,” said Frizzell, whose side were beaten 4-0 in the Scottish Cup last 16 by Dundee at the weekend.

“We went up to Dundee on Saturday as a bonus game, and to go through in the Scottish Cup would have been great, but the league is our bread and butter and we need to stay up.

“We’ve got a massive job in our hands. We don’t have anything to lose, we have to go for it. As much as we have nothing to lose, I don’t think it’s real panic stations – there are still 12, 13 games left for us.

“We have turned a corner, we’ve now got a healthy squad. We’re bringing on five subs, which hasn’t been the case in the last couple of months, we’ve been sort of bit-part.

“It has been very positive in the last couple of weeks in the league and we need to get back to that.

“We have a very hard game down at Cappielow now, they’re very high flying and they’re unbeaten in their last nine league games or something. We know the job at hand.

“These are all massive, and we have to win well over half of our games to give ourselves any chance of staying up, but that’s the plan.

“We’ve won our last two, we need to take that momentum, keep going, try and get as many points on the board as we can, and see where we are, come May.
