Airdrie Golf Club land their first Lanarkshire Junior League win

Airdrie Golf Club’s junior team are celebrating after winning the Lanarkshire Junior League for the first time.

After a nerve-jangling play-off second leg against Strathaven Golf Club, the club triumphed in a very close contest on Sunday, August 27.

The Airdrie youngsters trailed 3 and a half to 2 and a half after the first leg at Strathaven and needed a really strong performance on their home course to claw back the deficit.

After an epic battle, the home side triumphed 4 and a half to 1 and a half to secure the title 7-5 from their rivals.

A spokesperson for Airdrie Golf Club said: “The youngsters from both clubs played both legs in the most sporting and exemplary manner and are an absolute credit to their respective clubs.

“Airdrie Golf Club’s junior section continues to go from strength to strength with now more than 70 junior members playing regularly.

“Massive credit for the resurgence in youngsters playing at the club goes to Junior Convenors Jane Clark and Pete Russell, as well as team manager Ian Telford.”
