Airdrie defenders screaming at each other while thumping Falkirk shows desire, says star

Craig Watson says Airdrie’s will to win can be summed up because even at 2-0 up, the defence and goalkeeper were screaming at each other to keep a clean sheet.

Substitutes Gabby McGill and Salim Kouider-Aissa scored to add to Calum Gallagher’s double, to make absolutely sure of three points.

But defender Watson says the fact they are all pulling in the same direction can only give them a heightened chance of finally landing the League One title.

He said: “In the second half, in the last 10-15 minutes, myself, the rest of the back four and the goalkeeper were all screaming at each other about keeping that clean sheet.

“There are certain demands. It doesn’t matter if it’s 3-0, 4-0, 5-0 or whatever it is, we do our jobs.

“The attacking players have clearly done their job but we’ve got to make sure that we do ours, right to the 90-plus minute.”

Watson says Calum Gallagher’s goals in the 21st and 61st minutes came at the perfect time to calm Airdrie’s nerves, because Falkirk started the game well.

“That’s the best I’ve seen them in a good wee while,” said Watson.

“In the first 10-15 minutes they were bopping it about well, had us a bit shaken up, but we managed to ride that wave.

“The build up for the first goal was fantastic, nice and patient, and embodies everything that we want to be doing, that we’re practicing in training, so it’s great to see that taken into a Saturday.

“I was delighted that we managed to show a different side to us that sometimes was lacking last season, especially in the early stages, which ultimately cost us at the end of the season.

“You can’t really get any better and personally that’s two clean sheets – and a wee goal for me!
