Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe waiting to see the extent of knee injury that forced him off in Partick Thistle win

Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe says it’s too early to assess the extent of the damage, but is nursing a knee injury that could rule him out for weeks.

The Diamonds player-boss was stretchered off 37 minutes into his side’s 2-1 Championship win over Partick Thistle, and was replaced by Murray Aiken.

McCabe says he doesn’t yet know how serious the knock is, but knew he wasn’t going to continue.

When asked how the injury is, McCabe, who was walking with the aid of a metal crutch, said: “I don’t know, but I’ve got a lot of swelling there, so I’ll find out in the next couple of days.

“I knew kind of even the way I landed on it, the wee boy Lyon awkwardly falling on me, unintentionally, and I just felt something in my knee straight away.

“I knew it was something I wasn’t going to be able to continue with.”

McCabe was annoyed earlier in the game to see Callum Fordyce strike the ball seemingly into the top right corner, via the underside of the crossbar, only for play to rage on, and Thistle ultimately to take the lead.

Goals from Gabby McGill and Calum Gallagher kept the three points at New Broomfield, and McCabe was pleased.

He said: “From where I’m standing it was clearly over.

“Again, I’m open to seeing camera angles and what-not, but from where I was the goalie was in the back of the net, pushing the ball out and he [referee Craig Napier] doesn’t give it.

“Some you get, some you don’t, and that’s fine.”
