Airdrie boss hails 'deadly' striker Wilson as Diamonds target glamour game in last 16 of Premier Sports Cup

Rhys McCabe waxed lyrical about 'deadly' new striker Ben Wilson after he fired Airdrie into the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup.

And now he hopes the Diamonds can land a glamour tie when the draw for the knockout stages is made tomorrow.

Wilson netted for the SIXTH time in his first four games for Airdrie when he opened the scoring against Queen of the South a minute before half-time, and the summer signing from Cliftonville then turned provider in the 64th minute to tee up fellow new boy Terrell Agyemang for the clincher.

The Northern Irishman also netted a hat-trick in the 8-0 win over East Kilbride and followed that up with a goal in the 4-3 win at Dumbarton and the 2-1 defeat at Aberdeen in midweek.

He has shown a real nose for goal early on and McCabe was full of praise for his striker after sealing Airdrie's spot in round two of the cup as one of the three best runners-up.

McCabe beamed: "He's alright, isn't he? Ben has got a natural knack of getting between the posts. His goal return shows how deadly he is. He sniffs chances out, even the one up at Aberdeen [in midweek].

"His goals are not all the same kind of finishes. They are varied and his movement is excellent.

"The longer that he is with us and the longer we get boys playing together and gelling together, they are going to look for him more often, which is only going to be better for Ben. He has certainly come in and improved the team.

"But we also have Aaron Reid in there, Lewis McGregor can play through the middle, Cammy Cooper is a young one who is going to be more of a young development project.

"If you look at who else we've brought in, you look at Terrell Agyemang, Chris Mochrie and Cammy Bruce, there's been a really good level of addition in terms
