Airdrie boss blasts ref's Adam Frizzell 'stamp claim' as club look to appeal red card in Dumbarton win

Airdrie boss Ian Murray is set to appeal Adam Frizzell's controversial sending off for an alleged stamp in their battling 3-2 win over Dumbarton.

Murray claims referee Greg Aitken told him the winger was sent off for stamping on Stuart Carswell in a 50/50 challenge after 41 minutes of the clash, when Airdrie held a 2-1 lead.

The Diamonds were in front after strikes from Dylan Easton and Calum Gallagher, before George Stanger pulled one back for Sons.

Following the red card, Rhys McCabe turned the ball into his own net midway through the second half but 10-man Diamonds rallied to net an 88th minute winner through substitute Jordan Allan.

However, having reviewed video footage of the incident, Murray isn't happy with the decision and is set to appeal the straight red card to avoid his key man missing next week's trip to Clyde in their penultimate game in League One.

Murray said: "At the time I felt it was harsh. I know Adam really well and my initial annoyance is that I know he doesn't have that in his locker.

"We were told that he went over the top of the ball and stamped on the player, but the video shows that is clearly miles away from what it was.

"We have to be fair and say that is what the referee told us - and if the referee wants to stand by that, that is up to him - but we can clearly see Adam didn't go over the top of the ball and stamp on a player's ankle.

"I felt really sorry for him because he's a great lad, works tirelessly and is a genuinely lovely boy.

"He puts himself about, takes plenty of knocks himself, but he didn't deserve that.

"I'd like to think we will appeal it, looking back at it [on video].

"He wasn't out of control, it wasn't violent conduct.
