Aidan O'Rourke to remain as Donegal manager for 2023 season

Aidan O'Rourke will remain in charge of the Donegal footballers for the rest of the inter-county season, the county confirmed in a statement this afternoon.

O'Rourke, already serving as head coach since October, had been installed as interim manager following the departure of Paddy Carr last week.

This afternoon, Donegal GAA confirmed the arrangement would continue for this year's championship campaign, with O'Rourke remaining as interim manager and head coach, with former Derry attacker Paddy Bradley staying on as his assistant.

"Aidan O'Rourke will continue as interim manager & head coach of Donegal for the Ulster Championship & for the 2023 All-Ireland series," read the statement.

"Paddy Bradley will assist Aidan. CLG Dhún na nGall are also delighted to welcome Antoin McFadden as S&C coach."

He was in charge at the weekend as Donegal's Division 1 campaign concluded on a dismal note, with a 12-point defeat to Roscommon confirming their relegation.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport after the game, O'Rourke admitted it had been a "chaotic" and "emotionally tough" week. Asked then whether he would assume the role on a permanent basis, O'Rourke said: "To be straight, I don't know where my head would be at the minute."

Donegal face Down in the Ulster quarter-final in Newry on 23 April.

O'Rourke, a member of Armagh's All-Ireland winning team of 2002, previously managed Louth between 2012 and 2014 and also served as a selector with Kildare, Armagh and Down.
