AFN lists Eyakpobeyan, Israel Okon Sunday, others for World U-20 campaign in Peru

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has listed Paris 2024 Olympics 400m semifinalist, Ella Onojuvwevwo, long jump finalist, Prestina Ochonogor, Commonwealth Youth Games 100m silver medalist, Justiana Eyakpobeyan and Israel Okon Sunday for the World U20 Championships slated for the Estadio Atletico de la Videna in Lima, Peru. It will run from August 27-31.

The 18-man Nigerian team was released on Friday by World Athletics. It has eight men and 10 women competing in eight events viz 100m, 200, 400, 400m hurdles, 800m, the 4x100m and 4x400m relays as well as two field events, the long jump and high jump.

For the men, Chidera Ezeakor, Caleb John and Sunday will compete in the 100m, while John and Sunday will also compete in the 200m.

Gafari Badmus and Caleb Joshua will compete in the 400m while Goodluck Ezechukwu Fiaku will compete in the high jump and Oseiwe Salami in the 400m hurdles.

For the women, Eyakpobeyan, Precious Nzeakor and Chioma Cynthia Nweke will compete in the 100m, while Nzeakor and Onojuvwevwo will compete in the 200m.

Onojuvwevwo will also compete in the 400m alongside Favour Onyah and Chioma Nwachukwu with Ochonogor competing in the long jump and Taiwo Mary Kudoro in the 400m hurdles.

Adisa Rhoda will be the sole competitor in the 800m.
