AFCON 2023: Why I provided four buses for Nigerian journalists – Ibrahim Sangare

Ivorian-Nigerian, Ibrahim Sangare, has disclosed the reasons why he provided four buses for about 100 Nigerian journalists at the ongoing 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Sangare gave the reasons to United Kingdom-based Nigerian journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana who is currently covering the 2023 AFCON.

Sangare who is an Ivorian-Nigerian with his mother a Yoruba from Osun state paid for four buses for Nigerian journalists to go from Abidjan to Bouake for the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2023 semi-final game against South Africa on Wednesday.

He told Obayiuwana in an interview what motivated him to come up with the kind gesture to the Nigerian journalists.

“I did it because there are many Nigerians in Ivory Coast who do not know much about the country and I did not want the journalists to suffer,” he said.

“I also did my best to help them out because I had actually seen them in front of Victor Osimhen’s hotel trying to negotiate with some drivers on going to Bouake and that touched me.

“Because their negotiation wasn’t going on well, I decided to pay for four buses to take them from Abidjan to Bouake and back.”

Sangare further said that his mother hails from Ejigbo in Osun state and when pressed on what country he would be supporting between Ivory Coast and Nigeria in Sunday’s AFCON final, he simply said he would leave that in the hands of God to do the best.
