AFC Toronto takes over 3rd in NSL with win over Montreal Roses

Lauren Rowe and Kaylee Hunter scored second-half goals, goalkeeper Sabrina D'Angelo made two saves, and the visiting AFC Toronto moved into sole possession of third place with a 2-0 win over the Montreal Roses in Northern Super League action on Thursday.

Rowe snapped a scoreless draw in the 50th minute, while Hunter scored 25 minutes later at Stade Boreale.

AFC Toronto improved to five wins, four losses and three draws for 18 points, two points up on the Vancouver Rise and six behind the second-place Roses, who slipped to seven wins, three losses and three draws.

Montreal held the upper hand in the possession game (60 per cent to 40), and outshot the visitors 10-7, albeit Toronto had the advantage with on-target shots (4-2).

The visitors took seven of the game's 11 corner kicks and all four of the match's yellow cards. Chloe Minas of Montreal received the lone red card of the match.

Toronto: Hosts the winless Calgary Wild on Tuesday.

Montreal: Visits the Vancouver Rise on Wednesday.
