AEW: Update on potential UK shows

Since AEW started in 2019, there has been speculation surrounding UK shows or a European tour. However, we may have just found out details about the potential of a UK show.

The UK has seen some major announcements for wrestling in the past few months, most notably being the WWE PPV Clash At The Castle, which marks the first British major WWE show in over two decades.

However, speaking on the Grilling JR Podcast, the legendary voice of wrestling and AEW commentator Jim Ross may have accidentally let slip when we could see Tony Khan bring his promotion for a special show in the UK. 

AEW did have shows reportedly scheduled for 2020 in the UK, but plans were changed due to the pandemic.

JR gave an update on his podcast stating: 

“AEW is definitely coming to the UK in the next calendar year”

AEW currently hasn’t done a show out of the USA. However, with the introduction of the All-Atlantic Championship and Pac being the inaugural champion, this could be an indication for AEW to host a show in the UK. 

Also, Tony Khan is the owner of newly promoted Premier League side Fulham.

Therefore the show could take place at Craven Cottage due to Khan’s ownership, similar to how he’d have events in Jacksonville next to the TIAA Bank Field stadium, home to Khan’s NFL team, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Another reason JR gave for AEW’s excitement to have a show in the UK is that the shows get really good ratings from fanbases in the United Kingdom, so why not capitalise on this.

AEW television is broadcasted in the UK on British television company ITV, with the two companies been in partnership since 2019.
