Adisham’s Tristan Ovenden wins in the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy at Mondello Park, while son Will Ovenden doubles up in junior class at the same meeting

The Ovenden family had plenty to celebrate at Mondello Park in the latest round of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy.

Adisham’s Tristan, racing in the senior event, claimed a victory in one of the two rounds in Ireland as 5 Nations BRX joined the Irish Rallycross Championship for the joint double-header, with regulars from both series racing head-to-head, while son Will claimed back-to-back wins in the Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship.

Ovenden (Citroen DS3) came close to an overall victory in Saturday’s Final, having qualified best of the British contenders, but for contact to drop him down the order. That left six-time champion Godfrey (Citroen DS3) to pick up the pieces and secure a maximum points haul while Jake Harris (BMW Mini) finished second with his all-electric machine. Ovenden took third-place points.

In round four, Godfrey rolled his car out of the event after opening corner contact in Q2, the damage unable to be repaired at the circuit, while Ovenden went on to take top 5 Nations BRX honours ahead of Harris, who had won his Semi-Final overall.

Will Ovenden claimed back-to-back victories in rounds three and four of the Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship.

In his first race he took the win from pole position while, in round four, he won from second place.

The next round of the series features Supercars only, at Lydden Hill on July 22-23, with a double header at Pembury to follow on August 19-20.
