Ademola secures place in World U20 long jump final
Long-jumper Reece Ademola ensured that Team Ireland got off to the perfect start at the World Athletics U20 Championships in California, securing his place in Tuesday's final.
The Leevale athlete took to the pits at 5:45pm, reaching 7.76m in his opening round. It was to be the longest jump of his group, and the fourth longest jump overall.
Alongside securing a place in the final, Ademola's jump set the National U20 Record to 7.76m, outdoing his previous 7.68m record, set just last month in Cork.
Ademola moves to fourth place on the Irish all-time list, behind Johnathon Kron’s 7.79m jump set in 1994.
The Irishman will be back in action in Tuesday's final at 10:16pm Irish time.
