Adeleke & O'Donnell make World semi-finals in Oregon

Chris O’Donnell and Rhasidat Adeleke have both progressed to the men's and women's 400m semi-finals respectively at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon.

O'Donnell secured one of the six fastest qualifications spots, after coming fourth in his heat in a time of 46.01.

The North Sligo AC athlete produced a powerful performance throughout the heat, maintaining his position within the top three coming into the final 100m and narrowly missing out on an automatic qualification spot as he came in behind the Dominican Republic’s Lidio Andres Feliz on the line.

O'Donnell's semi-final takes place on Thursday at 2.45am Irish time.

Adeleke returned to the track after her brilliant mixed 4x400m performance on day one for the first of her individual races at these championships.

She missed the relay final due to illness but looked comfortable throughout her 400m heat on Sunday, crossing the line in second place to automatically get through to the semi with a time of 51.59.

Adeleke will also go again on Thursday at 3.15am Irish time.

Sophie Becker produced a stellar performance in her 400m heat, crossing the line in fifth place with 52.83 on the clock, but it wasn't not enough to get her through.

Thomas Barr competes in the 400m hurdles semi-final at 2.03am on Monday morning with Andrew Coscoran in the 1500m semis at 3am.
