Adebayo, Ajibola, Fatoumata win Lakowe Lakes golf titles

Four-handicapped Tunji Adebayo, at the weekend, reclaimed Lakowe Lakes Golf Men’s Club Championship honour for 2022, while Fatoumata Coker completed a treble to pick the ladies’ prize at the 36-hole event in Lagos.

Blazing Adebayo had returned 77 on the opening day of the event to set up an easy cruise in the closing round, where he coasted home with 74 to stand three shots clear of the opposition.

“It’s a beautiful feeling coming back to lift this title after denials in the recent past,” he said after lifting the winner’s trophy at the event.

“Golfing at Lakowe is just another experience on its own, it provides us with the very best of nature and we must commend the operators of the facility for not compromising on quality. I also want to give credit to the friendly atmosphere here,” he added.

Vitus Ezenwa, spotting handicap seven, was runner-up to Adebayo, beating third-placed Hector Okposo on countback at the two-day event.

Oluwole Abegunde returned the best net score at the event with 144, a level-par net score.

Speaking at the end of the competition, Golf Operations Manager at Lakowe Lakes Golf Estate, Femi Olagbenro, said this year’s event is the best in the series so far, adding that it also reflects the effort they had put in to keep the course at its best.

“We are pleased to see the quality of the turnout, from the players and it is very key to us to have the players compete in the best condition possible and have fun as well. Our goal is to offer the best lifestyle and sporting experience possible,” he said.

The event was supported by Mixta Africa, Mainstream Foundation, Standard Chartered Bank, NNPC/Chevron JV, Hydropolis Investment Limited, Sparkle, OPAS, Geregu Power PLC, and DEL.
