Adam Peaty reveals son's adorable 4-word reaction after missing out on third straight Olympic gold
British Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty's young son was left devastated following his father's miss on an Olympic gold medal.
The Duke of Dervonshire revealed to reporters, post receiving a silver medal for Team GB in the men's 100 metres breaststroke final at the Paris Olympics: "It's broken me, this sport, but it's also given me life."
Just falling short by 0.02 seconds, Peaty narrowly failed to secure his third consecutive 100m breaststroke title at the Olympics. The previous victor of the races in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 was gunning to match US swimming icon Michael Phelps' record of three successive Olympic Games wins. Regrettably, he was second to Nicolo Martinenghi and shared the silver medal with American competitor Nic Fink as both finished within 59.05 seconds.
Emotions ran high post the race for Peaty as he recalled the challenges faced since his win in Japan, including mental health struggles and a burnout induced hiatus from competing last year. Reflecting on his Silver win at the Paris Olympics, Peaty admitted: "I got blindsided. There were two on one side who I beat but I did not see the man on the other side. It could have gone either way."
Defending his emotional state, he declared: "These are happy tears. If you're willing to put yourself on the line every single time, I think there's no such thing as a loss. I'm so happy the right man won. I'm not defining myself by a medal. I define myself by my heart and what it has made me feel and produce. It's got the best out of me."
"It's broken me, this sport, but it's also given me life, it's given me everything I am and I am happy to stand here with not really any answers to what that performance is but a happy heart and that is all that matters."
