Adam Idah among the goals as Celtic demolish Dundee

Republic of Ireland international Adam Idah was among the goals as Celtic romped 13 points clear at the top of the William Hill Premiership with 13 games remaining after a 6-0 demolition of Dundee at Parkhead.

After enduring a barren run of 14 games without a goal, the Cork native notched his fourth goal in the last three games to make it 2-0 in first-half injury time after midfielder Arne Engels opened the scoring with a penalty in the 18th minute.

Japan winger Daizen Maeda notched two goals in four minutes after the break and Engels produced a glorious fifth on 72 minutes before substitute Nicolas Kuhn curled in number six to complete the destruction.

The crushing win demonstrated Celtic's strength even though boss Brendan Rodgers was frustrated at failing to recruit a replacement for main striker Kyogo Furuhashi who moved to French club Rennes for a reported fee of £10million.

The match was postponed on 25 January due to storm damage at Celtic Park but there was nothing wrong with the Hoops team who increased their lead over Old Firm rivals Rangers and are heavy odds-on to retain their title for a fourth successive time.

It was a desperate night for Tony Docherty’s Dundee, who lost 6-0 at home to Hearts at the weekend. But Celtic were on top form.

Portuguese winger Jota, who recently returned 18 months after leaving for spells in Saudi Arabia and then France, started the game after coming off the bench to score against Motherwell on Sunday.

Right-back Alistair Johnston and Engels were reinstated with Anthony Ralston, Luke McCowan and Kuhn dropping out.

Jeffrey Schlupp, the 32-year-old utility player signed on loan from Crystal Palace until the end of the season, was on the bench.
