Adam Devine sets target on Rangers cup final dream as diehard fan looks to make leap from the terraces to Hampden pitch

It's not even a year yet since Adam Devine was just one of the lads, jumping up and down with his mates on the Hampden terraces as they savoured extra-time ecstasy over Celtic. At that point, even the 19-year-old confessed his prospects of becoming one of Rangers’ main men seemed distant.

But fast forward on 10 months and the Ibrox youngster now believes he’s in with a realistic chance of completing a meteoric leap that could yet see him graduate from Gers academy hopeful to a fully fledged medal winner. The likelihood is that Devine will be taking a seat again when the Old Firm go head-to-head at the national stadium for next week’s Viaplay Cup final, with skipper James Tavernier and Borna Barisic nailed on to start.

But having been called on to help get Michael Beale’s team over the line in the semi-final with Aberdeen, the fresh-faced kid is ready to man up again against the Hoops. He said: “I’ve been to a fair few games at Hampden as a fan. The atmosphere’s crazy. That’s one of my dreams - to go on the pitch for a final.

“I was at the Scottish Cup semi-final and final last year. The semi-final was one to remember, the Calvin Bassey game against Celtic. I was there as a fan and it was amazing.

“It was madness when the goal went in at the end. As a player or as a fan, it’s what you dream of and hopefully one day that will happen for us.

“It would be massive if I could play next week. It would be my first taste of a League Cup final with Rangers. We’re looking forward to the game and hopefully we can put on a performance that brings home the silverware.”
