Adam and Hassan Azim: The show-stopping boxing brothers out to take up the torch from Amir Khan and make history

Adam and Hassan Azim will share a dream of fighting on the Amir Khan vs Kell Brook undercard on Saturday night as the prodigious boxing brothers seek to emulate and eventually surpass their hero’s achievements in the ring.

19-year-old Adam, regarded as one of the most frightening young talents in British boxing by his trainer Shane McGuigan, will be joined by brother Hassan, 21, on the bill at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night.

After excellent amateur careers littered with national junior titles, the Slough brothers are making their first steps in the professional game with both securing explosive knockout finishes to light up the SSE Arena, Wembley last November – Adam moving 2-0 that night with Hassan getting a debut victory.

Sharing the stage with Khan, whom they also share the same British-Pakistani heritage with, is the next step.

‘I saw Amir Khan fight 14 years ago, I was five and it was at the same arena we’re at this weekend in Manchester’, Adam said. ‘My dad said to me while I was sat on his lap I will be fighting here one day. 14 years later, here we are.’

‘The first fight I ever watched was an Amir Khan fight,’ Hassan added. ‘Now, I’m on the undercard, it’s a privilege. Amir is coming to the end of his career now so I want to become the next Amir Khan.’

Adam was the first of the two to step between the ropes, taking up the sport at four years old. ‘I was the first in my family ever to box,’ he explained. ‘Dad was a footballer before, but I was better with my hands. I had ADHD when I was young, so we used boxing to help me with that and my dad saw I had talent.’

The Azims are part of Shane McGuigan’s blossoming stable that includes cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okokie and heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois
