AC Milan 3-2 Inter: Lautaro Martinez guilty of horrendous dive

The first Milan derby of the 2022/2023 football season was an absolute classic.

Both clubs have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years after basking in the realm of mediocrity whilst Juventus swept up Scudetto after Scudetto.

The Rossoneri are reigning Serie A Champions, pipping Inter to glory on the final day of last season.

Whilst the Nerazzurri were victors the season prior, dominating the league and winning by an impressive 12 point margin.

Needless to say, the expectation in Italy is that the city rivals will once again battle it out for the title this campaign.

And based off this weekend’s showing, well, we’d be inclined to agree with that sentiment.

The game was end-to-end from the off, full of passion and attacking intent – pretty much everything you could want from such an enormous clash.

Inter took the lead courtesy of a fine Marcelo Brozovic goal in the 21st minute.

But AC responded emphatically, equalising through star man Rafael Leao just seven minutes later.

Coming out for the second-half it was still all to play for at 1-1 but it was the home side (AC) that seized the initiative.

The in-form Olivier Giroud fired his fourth goal in three games to put his team ahead.

Before Leao struck home his second in the 60th minute to effectively put the game beyond the opposition.

Inter wouldn’t go down without a fight, though, and responded with an Edin Dzeko goal in the 67th to set up a nervy finish.

But, in the end, it wasn’t enough and the home side captured a crucial three points.
