Aberdeen win must be built on with Livingston coming here, says Motherwell boss

Motherwell boss Stevie Hammell says his side must build on their win over Aberdeen as they head into a Fir Park showdown with Livingston tomorrow.

While Hammell says the Steelmen need to put that result behind them and focus on Davie Martindale’s men, he adds that they must learn from it and wants improvements even on the 3-2 win.

Blair Spittal gave ’Well the lead, only for Aberdeen to turn it around with strikes from Bojan Miovski and Jonny Hayes.

However, strikes from Callum Slattery and Kevin van Veen saw Hammell’s side take all three points back to North Lanarkshire.

With Livingston having enjoyed a strong start to the season, including a 2-1 win over Hibs last weekend, Hammell expects a tough test.

He said: “The win over Aberdeen was huge, it was really positive and well deserved, I thought, in the game.

“We learned from it, we move on, and there are no easy games in this league at all.

“There’s a lot of stuff we could have done better, that we need to improve on, and again this game on Saturday is a very tough one, but we’ve prepared as best we can.

“We know we will need to be at our absolute best to get anything.

“Livingston are a good team, they’ve got a great togetherness and it’s a different problem to before.

“They’re a mature group, they recruit and bring people in to what they do, and I believe that’s where their strengths are – their togetherness, their team spirit – and we’re under no illusions how tough this is going to be.”

Hammell added: “They have weaknesses we can exploit, they’ll think the same about us and will come here expecting to do well, the same as us.

“It will be tough, but we need to build on what we’ve done already, we need to put another positive performance on – that’s the goal.
