Aberdeen v Motherwell: Steelmen out to prove a point, says No.2

Motherwell No.2 Stephen Frail says the Steelmen are heading to Aberdeen on Saturday with a point to prove, looking to pick up a first win over the Dons this season.

The last time the Steelmen were in the Granite City they threw away a three-goal lead to draw back in February, and lost both the fixtures at Fir Park.

This time around, Aberdeen have appointed ex-Elfsborg boss Jimmy Thelin, who will join from his native Sweden in June, overseeing caretaker boss Peter Leven.

While assistant Frail admits they would have accepted a point before the game when they last visited Pittodrie, he’s looking for more this time around.

Aberdeen away is the first of three in their bottom-five fixtures, with Motherwell eighth, a place and two points ahead of their hosts, and Frail told us: “When it was decided, after the Hibs game, that we were bottom six, we thought we’d get two home and three away, so it’s the way it has fallen and we just need to get on with it.

“We’ve been good on the road in certain games this season, so we’ll go up to Aberdeen and hopefully get a positive result.

“It is an interesting dynamic. This is their first league game after the announcement of their new manager – whether or not he’ll be there I don’t know.

“But there have been interesting games between us.

“The one that sticks in the mind for us more is the 3-3 game.

“It was such a brilliant start in the game and we were disappointed to lose the three goals – but we would probably have taken a point before we went up there.

“The two homes, we have to be honest and say we’re disappointed to lose them.

“I know every team can look back on it, but if we had taken the three points from those games we possibly could have been in and around the top six a little bit
