Aberdeen fans given strict pyro warning ahead of Celtic showdown at Pittodrie

Aberdeen have fired a pre-match pyro warning to fans ahead of their Pittodrie showdown against Celtic.

Dons chiefs have told anyone caught with flares that they will be banned from the stadium and face “criminal action”.

The Hoops are the visitors to the north east and the message comes just 24 hours after they were forced to close the standing section at Parkhead for this week’s Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers.

That move came following a pyro show during last week’s win over Rangers in the east end of Glasgow.

Aberdeen are now warning supporters about the dangers of using pyro ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash.

A statement on the club website read: “Recent games in the SPFL have seen an increase in the carrying and use of pyrotechnic smoke devices inside and outside the stadiums.

“The Club appeals to all supporters to be aware of just how dangerous and potentially unstable these devices are and refrain from taking them to football matches where crowds make the risk of potentially serious injury a very real threat.

“Supporters who use these objects are endangering themselves and others, the smoke along can cause serious breathing difficulties for asthmatics.

“Anyone caught in possession or using a pyro device will face criminal action and will be banned from Pittodrie. We thank all supporters for their co-operation.”
