Abbey Vale record comfortable win over Wigtown and Bladnoch

Abbey Vale took a comfortable 4-0 win over bottom side Wigtown & Bladnoch.

Ethan Notman opened the scoring with Robbie Simpson doubling the lead before the break.

Adam Kirk killed the game as a contest with his goal in the second half before a trialist completed the scoring.

Vale boss Allan Clark said: “It was as comfy as we wanted to be, although we could maybe have got another couple of goals in the first half.

“We were a wee bit disjointed, we had folk playing out of position due to injuries and folk missing.

“I’d rather the boys were all there, but it’s the way things are at the moment – we have a few injuries or boys have things on so numbers are a bit tight.

“I’d imagine a lot of clubs will be in the same boat at some point of the season.

“Hopefully we can get a couple back in the next week or two.”

Vale are at home again this week when they host Lochar Thistle in the Alba Cup.

And it’s a competition which could – eventually – lead to a place in next season’s Scottish Cup.

Clark said: “I think you only have to play three games if you go all the way but it’s still hard to qualify.

“The winners then need to play the winners from the West and East so it’s very hard, but it’s obviously another opportunity.

“We’ve had a good start and so have Lochar – they’ve a strong team this year so it’ll definitely be a tough game.

“We’re looking to progress in the cup but they’ll probably be looking at it exactly the same way.”
