Aaron Wan-Bissaka could be about to give Manchester United a problem with international decision

Out of nowhere, the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations has become a bit of a concern for Manchester United.

First of all, Andre Onana has unexpectedly decided to return to the Cameroon squad ahead of the tournament. United signed the goalkeeper to replace David de Gea in the summer and did not anticipate losing him in the early months of 2024 after a spectacular falling out with manager Rigobert Song during the World Cup.

However, he has since returned to international action to help his country qualify for AFCON and, though it's not yet decided if he will or not, could play in the competition as well. Altay Bayindir, who also arrived in the summer as backup to Onana, is yet to even make his debut under Erik ten Hag but could be relied on for a host of fixtures between January 13-Februrary 11.

If that wasn't already troubling enough for United, they could lose Aaron Wan-Bissaka for that period as well. According to The Athletic, the defender has received an offer to switch his national allegiance to DR Congo.

Wan-Bissaka is yet to make his England debut and has only represented the Three Lions at youth level. He was callled up by Gareth Southgate in 2019 but a back injury ruled him out of the squad and the fierce competition at right-back has meant he has been unable to get a look in.

With Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold, among others, ahead of him in the pecking order, a return to the England squad does not look likely. Which must make the offer to play for DR Congo an appetising one.
