Aaron Ramsey hails Rangers support amid doubts over star’s Italian future

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey has thanked the supporters for the way they welcomed him to the club during his loan spell with Rangers.

The 31-year-old moved to Ibrox on a six-month deal in January after falling out of favour at Juventus. He enjoyed 13 appearances in all competitions, with nine starts but the jury is still out on his overall contribution. The former Arsenal ace scored two Scottish Premiership goals, including one in a 2-1 Old Firm Derby loss to Celtic.

But he will be remembered as the player who missed a penalty in the Europa League final shootout defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Wales international was brought on with just two minutes of the 30 left in extra time.

And he was the only player of the ten given the task from 12 yards who failed to convert. Ramsey will now head back to Turin amid uncertainty over his future with the Serie A giants.

He is under contract with Juve until the summer of 2023. However, after playing just 97 minutes of league football in the first half of 2021-2022, he may be seeking a summer exit.

Rangers were thought to hold an interest in a permanent deal for the Caerphilly-born forward. Whatever happens, Ramsey  was keen to show his appreciation after the Gers beat Hearts to win the Scottish Cup.

“A nice way to finish the season especially after the big disappointment on Wednesday,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome. It’s been an incredible few months and I’m proud to be a small part of the club’s rich history. Thank you Rangers.”

It is unclear whether the Glasgow giants will attempt to take him back north of the border. With just 12 months left on his Juventus deal, the price tag would not be prohibitive.
