Aaron Hill shocks Judd Trump at Northern Ireland Open

Aaron Hill has pulled off a major shock by knocking last year's World Championship finalist Judd Trump out of the Northern Ireland Open in Belfast by four frames to one.

20-year-old Hill told RTÉ Sport last week that he was "buzzing" to play a first WST event on the island of Ireland, and he certainly burst out of the blocks at the Waterfront Hall.

Hill, who failed to qualify for the Belfast event in his previous two years on the tour, knocked in a break of 52 to win the opener.

Trump, who has won 23 ranking titles, reminded everyone of his class with a century in the next.

But when Hill won a scrappy third, the momentum swung back in his direction, and he managed a break of 87 in the next, after knocking in a sublime cut to the right middle, to move two clear with three frames to play.

Trump had a chance in the next, but poor positional play eventually saw him wobble a red in the jaws. Hill made 23, before breaking down after missing a cannon on the pack.

A brilliant log red put the Corkman back in, and from there he showed composure beyond his years to send the Ace in the Pack crashing out.

Next up for hill is a last-32 meeting with Tom Ford tomorrow night.
