Aaron Bolger signs for National League strugglers Ebbsfleet United on loan from League of Ireland side St Patrick's Athletic – QPR’s Alex Aoraha extends loan spell

Ebbsfleet United have signed a former Republic of Ireland youth international on loan for the rest of the season.

Defensive midfielder Aaron Bolger, 25, has joined the National League’s bottom side on loan from St Patrick's Athletic.

Bolger played from under-16 up to under-21s for Ireland and has previously spent time at Cardiff City, without making a league appearance for the Welsh side.

He started his career with Shamrock Rovers, before his move to Cardiff CIty, initially on loan, a move which was turned permanent. He was then sent back to his former club on loan.

It was while at Shamrock that his former boss Stephen Bradley made headlines after describing the midfielder, then only 18, as a “nasty little f****r who can do a bit of everything.”

Bradley added: “He can pass, he can keep it, he can mix it.

“You don’t have to say, ‘Aaron, you’ve got to put your foot in’.

“Sometimes in training you’re trying to hold him back. He shows up five o’clock and is in his shorts. ‘Why are you early?’ He says: ‘I’m always early, I’m ready to play’.

He joined the Pats in December 2023 and played for them in the UEFA Conference League and was part of the team that won the 23/24 Leinster Senior Cup.
