A6 incident: Man stabbed and Land Rover smashed up amid 'disturbance'

A man was stabbed and a Land Rover car was left wrecked amid a 'disturbance' on a major road in Stockport this morning.

Armed police were scrambled to the scene on the A6, close to St George's Church, at around 9.50am on Thursday (March 21). A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said officers responded to 'reports of a disturbance at a shop'.

Paramedics also raced to the scene, as an air ambulance landed near to the busy road. Pictures showed a smashed-up Land Rover vehicle inside a cordon off area outside a tattoo shop.

Police confirmed one man was taken to hospital with 'stab injuries'. He was also arrested. Another male was also arrested on the scene. Of the two arrests, one was made on suspicion of affray.

The other was on suspicion of assault. Police said the incident was believed to be 'isolated'.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at a shop on the A6 in Heaviley, Stockport, at around 9:50am today (21/3/24). One man required hospital treatment for stab injuries and a vehicle was damaged during the incident.

"Two men, including the injured party, have been arrested, one on suspicion of affray and the other for assault. Officers are treating this as an isolated incident."

Officers remain on the scene of the incident this afternoon. Video footage taken earlier showed multiple unmarked police vehicles arriving on the A6 with their sirens on.

Pictures show a number of armed police officers on the scene. Several ambulance vehicles also responded.
