A wildcard and a lot of depth - a look at Huddersfield Town's injury list with play-offs looming

Huddersfield Town’s place in the play-offs is confirmed but it is yet to be finalised who they will be playing. As it stands it will likely be one of Sheffield United or Luton Town, barring a huge swing Middlesbrough’s way. A tough challenge over two legs whoever they play but the Terriers have been good when cross-examined more often than not this season.

With that in mind we thought we would run the rule over the fitness of the squad as is to see if Town are likely to be somewhere near full strength for the semi-finals. The club has coped well with injuries this season as a rule after a 2020/21 campaign that was decimated by a string of absentees from the new year on. This time there have been only a couple of long-term misses and only slight knocks and issues to cope with in general.

Those two known big injuries have been to Ryan Schofield (shoulder) and Alex Vallejo (knee), neither of whom will feature until next season at the earliest. It likely means fans have seen the last of Vallejo in a Town shirt whose contract expires this summer. Schofield will remain at the club but with the thankless task of trying to compete with the superb Lee Nicholls ahead of him, his recovery is likely to be done with the B Team.

The long-term injury everyone forgets about has been to Rolando Aarons, a player Town have still yet to be able to call on reliably since he joined in the January of 2021. Injuries have completely stifled his Terriers career to date, the latest a knee issue, but he is back in training and recently played for the B Team. It’s unlikely at this stage he will break into a matchday squad, better to wait and have a full pre-season we suspect.

Two other squad absentees are looking close to a return with Danel
