'A serious coup' - Derry thrilled to bring in striker Liam Boyce

Derry City have completed the signing of experienced striker Liam Boyce from Hearts.

The 33-year-old has penned a two-year deal with the Candystripes after spending the last five years in Edinburgh.

Derry boss Tiernan Lynch is hoping the new arrival - capped 28 times by Northern Ireland - will sharpen up his attack as they look to launch a title challenge in 2025.

"It’s great to get another international footballer into the club and we’re delighted to have him at the Brandywell," said Lynch, who described the capture of Boyce as "a serious coup".

"You only have to look at Liam’s record in England and Scotland over the last 10 years to see the quality that he brings. He’s a proven goalscorer and a great addition for us.

"We’re looking forward to our training camp next week and it’ll be an ideal opportunity for Liam to get to know the rest of the boys ahead of the new season."

Boyce might have gotten a first runout with his new team on Saturday but Derry's planned friendly against Finn Harps in Ballybofey was called off due to heavy frost.
