“A potential alternative to Jake Livermore” – West Brom target Premier League player: The verdict

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly keen on Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury. 

The Express & Star has reported that Albion are working on a deal for the 24-year-old – either on loan or permanently – with opportunities hard to come by for him at the King Power Stadium.

But would he be a good signing for the Championship club? And do they need him?

We asked our FLW writers…

Choudhury has not been able to establish himself at Leicester in the last few seasons, and therefore with just one year remaining on his contract, the 24-year-old should be thinking about where his future lies.

West Brom’s midfield was very pedestrian last season, and Choudhury would definitely improve their physical presence and ball-playing ability in central areas.

However, with Alex Mowatt, Jayson Molumby, and Jake Livermore for competition straight away there would be other options that give Choudhury a better chance of nailing down a spot in the starting XI.

That is what he needs, and has not had before, at this stage of his career, moving to the Baggies as a fringe player would be counter-productive.

It would be a good signing, but from the player’s perspective, another destination may be preferred.
