Indiana Fever forward Sophie Cunningham has taken the internet by storm this week, thanks to her interaction with Phoenix Mercury’s DeWanna Bonner during Monday’s match-up in Indiana. The WNBA’s blonde bombshell is now officially the most popular meme of the WNBA season.
For context, late in the fourth quarter, tensions flared after Caitlin Clark and Bonner got into a verbal exchange following a foul. Ever since Bonner essentially deserted the Fever last season so she could play with her fiancée Alyssa Thomas, who was suspended Thursday for punching Clark in the throat, it seems as if she has a bone to pick with the entire team in every match-up.
Here’s where Cunningham became a meme: Cunningham stepped in and confronted her former Fever teammate immediately following the interaction. Instead of pushing or trash talking in response to Bonner’s tirade, Cunningham simply pointed her finger directly at Bonner from a few feet away for over 22 seconds. Honestly, it was hilarious, which is why it’s turned into such a viral sensation.
