'A fantastic level' - Corberan praise after Huddersfield Town keeper reaches clean sheet milestone

Huddersfield Town’s excellent season continued with a 0-0 draw against a flying Sheffield United on Saturday. But for some key decisions Town could have come away with more than a point as they put in one of their best 90 minutes of the year against a team who were on a run of four straight wins and ten goals scored in their last five games.

Ultimately the Terriers had to make do with extending their own unbeaten run to fourteen with the goalless draw. As well as that milestone it also marked another for one of their key performers as Lee Nicholls became the outright leader for clean sheets in the Championship this season.

Town’s stopper pulled off a magnificent save late on to preserve the point and his manager Carlos Corberan was absolutely glowing about his man when he spoke after the game.

"We cannot be more pleased with him, it's impossible - he's an excellent keeper,” said Town’s head coach.

"Today maybe the clean sheet had a better feeling for me as a coach because in some games we achieved it with many saves” he continued, “today we reduced the number of saves he needed to bring to the team and as a coach I prefer that.

"The team have a lot of confidence in him because he is performing to a fantastic level.”

That level is now at the very top level of the second tier. A clean sheet clear of Bournemouth’s Mark Travers in second, he has been a revelation this season after arriving in the summer as a free agent.

Whilst leading the league on one metric is impressive he is also second to Barnsley’s Bradley Collins on total saves made, only two behind Collins’ 100. For context, Travers is in third place a full twelve saves behind Nicholls’ tally.
