“A fantastic future ahead of him” – Pundit shares glowing assessment of Sunderland attacker

Securing a return to the Championship, it is set to be an exciting season for Sunderland, who will be looking to progress even further under Alex Neil. 

Already possessing a strong core to the squad, Neil will be hoping to keep hold of his more integral players, whilst looking to add in other areas of the pitch.

One Sunderland player who has been at the centre of transfer attention is talisman Ross Stewart, with Norwich City and Rangers previously credited with an interest in the forward.

Stewart finished the League One campaign with 26 goals, proving to be a to performer at third-tier level.

Proving to be a fan of the Scotsman and what he has contributed this season, Carlton Palmer told FLW: “Well, I think he’s more than a goalscorer.

“I mean he’s a very, very intelligent football. He pulls off the back of people, he holds the ball up very, very well, he links the players in and he runs, he’s got good pace. 

“I mean, if you see second goal, the way he just pulls off the centre back’s shoulder and then takes his first touch across him and then goes back across the keeper.

“That’s an intelligent footballer.

So I think he‘ll cut it in the championship, no doubt at all.

“when you’ve got that movement and knowledge in holding the ball up. I think he’s got a fantastic future ahead of him.”

There was a lot of pressure on Stewart’s shoulder at the start of the campaign, with the Scotsman being tasked with filling the void that Charlie Wyke left when he departed.

However, he has managed to deal with that level of expectation spectacularly, emerging as one of the division’s most talented and dangerous players.
