A day of horror on the streets of a Greater Manchester borough

There has been 24 hours of horror on the streets of Bury. A bouncer was shot in the doorway of a busy bar, a man was stabbed in a violent attack and a motorbike rider has suffered potentially life-changing injuries in a major crash.

Three separate investigations have been launched into separate incidents across the north Manchester borough on Wednesday and Thursday (October 23 and 24).

The first incident struck after a bouncer was shot at a bar in Bury town centre. Bullet holes were left in the window of Stanley's bar, on Silver Street, after the doorman was blasted in the hand on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services raced to the incident at around 11.45pm. The victim, a man aged 39, was rushed to hospital after sustaining a serious gunshot wound to his wrist.

An attempted murder investigation was launched, with a 19-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident. He remains in custody to be questioned.

The street, in the centre of Bury, remained taped off with forensics scouring the scene for evidence throughout Thursday. Greater Manchester Police said they believe the 'senseless' attack was 'isolated'.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector, Andy Day, from GMP's Bury division, said: "This was a shocking attack, and an example of the type of violence that has no place in our community. A man has been seriously injured as a result of a senseless shooting and the lives of others were put in harm's way. It is vital that those responsible are brought to justice."

It was later in the day on Thursday that emergency services were alerted to reports of a stabbing in Radcliffe, Bury.
