85% pass accuracy: The Derby County star who impressed against Huddersfield Town despite defeat

Derby County suffered a 2-0 loss away to Huddersfield Town last night, with Duane Holmes’ deflected effort and Jordan Rhodes’ strike proving to be the difference at the John Smith’s Stadium. 

Despite ultimately coming away with no points, it was a spirited display from the Rams who were reduced to 1o men after just three minutes, when Richard Stearman was shown red for a challenge on Lewis O’Brien. 

Derby managed to keep their play-off chasing hosts at arm’s length for a large period of the game, conceding the first goal in the 75th minute. 

One player who stood out for the visitors was Curtis Davies. 

The vastly experienced centre-back lost his defensive partner after just three minutes, but his experience, reading of the game and evident ability, all helped to keep Huddersfield for so long. 

Davies has been a big influence on a very young Derby squad this season, with the departures of Phil Jagielka and Graeme Shinnie putting more weight onto the 36-year-old’s shoulders. 

In what was a difficult night for Davies and Co. the numbers, which were collected using Wyscout, somewhat backed up his strong performance . 

Davies completed just 17 passes last night, which is a comparatively low number when taking into account the rest of the season thus far. 

The Rams saw much less of the ball as a result of the early red card, with Davies still possessing a relatively high pass percentage of 85%. 

Making nine interceptions, Davies once again proved his abilities to read the game, with that number the second-highest amount of interceptions he has made over the last 10 games. 

Davies made five clearances last night, and whilst that is marginally higher than his average this season, Huddersfield’s pressure and Davies’ excellent
