800 Meters on Netflix: Release date and what the documentary is about

In 2017, 16 people were killed in two terrorist attacks on the afternoon of August 17 . A new Netflix documentary called 800 Meters (yes we know we Brits would spell it 'metres') will shed light on the sinister plots on Spanish soil.

The main attack was carried out by a 22-year-old called Younes Abouyaaqoub, who drove a van into pedestrians on La Rambla, also known as Las Ramblas, the famous and busy street in Barcelona. He went on the run for days afterwards before police eventually caught up with him and shot him dead.

The second attack took place in Cambrils, a seaside resort just down the Catalan coast from Barcelona. Again, it involved a vehicle being driven into pedestrians.

Directed by Elias Leon, the series will feature interviews by journalist Nacho Carretero. The "incisive" doc will unravel the series of events that led to the terrorist attacks, as well as exploring the aftermath and covering how the community was impacted. The Netflix documentary series will be released on Friday, March 25, 2022.

The Spanish documentary follows a police investigation of two terrorist attacks that took place in Spain in 2017. The series looks into the preparations of the perpetrators.

The night prior to the Barcelona attack, an explosion happened in a house in the Spanish town of Alcanar which destroyed the building and killed two members of the terrorist cell. Among the dead was a 40-year-old Imam, Abdelbaki Es Satty, a Moroccan believed to have been the ringleader behind the attack.
