68% of Russian prisoners of war consider the war ‘justified’: a unique international study is presented in Kyiv
On February 25 at 1:00 PM, a presentation of the study “Words That Kill: How Russian Propaganda Influences Mobilization and Combat Motivation” will take place at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center (2 Khreshchatyk St.).
The study is based on a survey of 1,060 Russian prisoners of war and, for the first time, provides empirical evidence that wartime propaganda is one of the key factors supporting aggression against Ukraine.
Key findings include:
• 68% of respondents perceive the war as “legitimate” and “justified”;
• 25% state they are ready to take part in combat again even after captivity;
• 42% demonstrate signs of dehumanization toward Ukrainians;
• Only 11% surrendered voluntarily.
The study has significant legal relevance and may be used as evidentiary support in cases concerning the crime of aggression, as well as for developing international policies to counter propaganda.
