Gakpo has been heavily linked with Arsenal in recent months. He is said to be rated at around €40m.

The 22-year-old has spent his whole career at PSV. He is currently enjoying his best season to date on a personal level.

The attacker has grabbed 18 goals and 15 assists from his 43 appearances across all competitions.

Gakpo was unable to make an impact against Leicester City in the Europa Conference League though.

The Foxes beat PSV 2-1 on aggregate to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Dutch journalist Marco Timmer has claimed that Gakpo is “not always there in the big games”:

“The footballer has missed too many matches in the past two seasons due to injuries,” Timmer said (via Sport Witness).

“And although he is PSV’s best player, the captain was not always there in the big games. He was in the cup final against Ajax, but for example not against Leicester City twice.”

Van Nistelrooy is set to become PSV’s new manager this summer. The former Man Utd forward did not move to the Premier League until later in his career.

Timmer thinks that Gakpo should copy Van Nistelrooy and wait for his move to England:
