£34.9m down the drain: Everton "monster" has been robbing Moshiri blind for 132 weeks - opinion

As tends to be the case with most clubs that are usually active in the transfer market, not all new players that are brought in end up being worth their transfer fee based on what they produce on the pitch.

One example of that at Everton that springs to mind is midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who made the move to Goodison Park 132 weeks ago back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Mainz in a five-year deal worth a reported fee of £25m.

Since then, the midfielder, who has been picking up a weekly wage of £75k-per-week according to Salary Sport, has only made eight appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, mainly as a result of his incredibly unfortunate injury record.

According to Transfermarkt, the 26-year-old has missed a total of 86 games with three different injuries to his hamstring, Achilles tendon and medial collateral ligament.

Labelled as a “monster” by senior personal trainer and consultant at the Odysium rehabilitation centre in Paris, Theo Chapelle, Gbamin’s time at Everton has been rather disappointing for all involved and it’s safe to say that the £9m-rated player has not been able to repay any of the transfer fee that the club splashed out for him.

So far this season, despite appearing in 16 Premier League matchday squads, the Ivory Coast international has only made three appearances for Everton, starting just one of them and racking up a total of 64 minutes on the pitch.

Taking all of this into account, it’s safe to say that based on what he’s been able to deliver on the pitch since his arrival, Gbamin has been a big waste of money and arguably been rinsing Farhad Moshiri’s pockets of a combined total of £34.6m from his transfer fee and weekly wages.

Moving forward, despite not featuring in
