33 SA players in 2022 IPL auction, including 'Baby AB' Brevis

There will be 33 South Africans in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction that will take place on 12 and 13 February in Bengaluru.

A total of 590 players will be up for sale at the two-day auction as they look to be picked up by one of the 10 franchises.

Fast bowler Anrich Nortje was the sole South African retained for this year's IPL as he remains with the Delhi Capitals.

SA U19 star Dewald Brevis, who is nicknamed 'Baby AB', is also included after he impressed for South Africa at the ongoing U19 Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean.

He has a reserve price of 20 Rs Lakhs (around R400 000).

The 18-year-old batter is the leading run-scorer of the tournament, scoring 368 runs in five matches, which includes a century and three half-centuries.

Last year, former Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis led the Chennai Super Kings to their fourth IPL title and ended as the tournament's second-highest wicket-taker (633 runs).

Du Plessis, who has run out of favour with the Proteas since his Test retirement last year, hopes to secure a contract with a reserve of 200 Rs Lakhs (around R4 million).

Also up for 200 Rs Lakhs is Proteas wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, who was released from the Mumbai Indians and fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who was released from the Capitals.

World number two T20 bowler Tabraiz Shamsi will hope to gain an IPL contract this year as he goes for 100 Rs Lakhs (R2 million).

Other South Africans in the line-up include Proteas newcomer Marco Jansen, fast bowler Lungi Ngidi and spinner Keshav Maharaj.

South Africans listed in IPL Auction:

Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Kagiso Rabada, David Miller, Imran Tahir, Dewald Brevis, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Dwaine
